Something New

We have been so blessed to live near a rural/farming area
Our boys love discovering where their food comes from
and as their momma I love knowing that their little brains
are connecting all the dots.
For years now we have talked about land,
about the dream of one day trying our hand at a bit of farming.
I've already got the hens in my head named ;)
But truth is, we know nothing about it.
We show up in these gorgeous fields,
fill our baskets to the brim
and drive off dreamily pleased with ourselves.

But this is a new season
and after a talk with Mr. Doozie and a lot of research
we sent a little email to a local farm;
asking if we could volunteer with them and learn as we go.
To my huge surprise they said yes!
So, for the Fall/Winter/Spring season
the boys and I will volunteer 2 times a week.
Learning all we can and hopefully preparing ourselves
for a future hobby farm!

The best part is that they are an organic/chemical free farm,
that boasts a large CSA that we also have decided to take part in.
We are so excited about this new adventure!
I'm sure we will be lots of help!
Haha!

  1. This is awesome news! I am excited for all of you! We have spent the last year actively working a little piece of our yard and have had the most incredible experience with the grands, from laying the timbers to harvest. It's an invaluable experience for all. I'll be excited to follow your journey! ~ paula@weewhimsicals xo

Farming is hard work, sometimes heartbreaking work, but rewarding too.

  6. Wow, that is such a cool thing to do! You guys will have so much fun, and it's great to learn if you'd really like the farming life. Me, I love the idea of it when I'm browsing the pages of "MaryJanes Farm" or "Hobby Farm" magazines, but then I imagine the smell of chicken poo and I'm not so sure :-D
