We've had this gift in our family for about a year now, I got the inspiration from here. It was part of Mr. Doozie's birthday gift's last year and it has become such a fun way for our family to show each other some love!
The idea: Without the recipient knowing, hide all the hearts you make (except for one) in various places that your loved one might look. Get the kiddos involved in this, my 5 year-old had some hilarious suggestions of where to hide them. When your ready to give the gift, place the last heart in a mason jar with a little tag on it reminding them that they are always loved. Every time your loved one finds a heart its like a little hug saying "I love YOU", watch the jar fill up and then pick a new person in the family to give it to! Yeah this is a bit sappy but that's how we role over here ;)
What you'll need:
1/2 yard of white fabric
1/2 yard of red fabric
2 pieces of batting 1/4 yard each
A heart shape to trace~I used a cookie cutter
A sewing machine~you could do this by hand but goodness that would take ages!
Place your fabric right side down in front of you. Put the piece of batting on top of one side of the fabric and fold the other side of the fabric over it. You should have a little sandwich, where the batting is in the middle and the print fabric is the bread. Pin it together and then trace hearts all over it. Now your ready to sew. On your machine, decrease your stitch count just slightly and sew around the hearts. Once all your hearts are sewn use scissors and cut them out leaving a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Repeat these steps for your second fabric choice and your done!
